Those are the same prices each and every week. And in some cases, a department manager has stood over the shoulder of the person taking the test and prompted them with answers. It was mostly about being able to operate the point of sale computer. That certification falsely conveys expertise that either does not exist, or was not tested for.Īs you well know, the test you took had almost nothing to do with framing. If a customer came back to your store (with a damaged item that obviously had to be framed by someone else from Michaels) with a damaged piece. And I'm glad more than anything that you spoke up. So while I say in one breath that we shouldn't hold Michael's to a higher standard than we're setting for ourselves (About 1/4 of my items are improperly framed by someone.), we have different expectations for a chain store when it comes to consistency.and so does the public. So it kills us even more when that power is used to destroy a customer's work. And its been an uphill fight against such large buying and advertising power. Independent framers are constantly doing battle competition-wise with Michaels. One would expect a cheeseburger from McDonalds to taste the same regardless of location. There isn't a single independant frame shop in my area that will pay me what I make there and give me insurance, and that isn't saying much. I work for them because they provide a roof over my head and allow me to put food on the table. I frame because I love framing, I frame because I am GOOD at what I do, not because I have a piece of paper. I am not saying there are Michael's framers that don't do what you all say, but for every one of them, I bet you there is an independant framer doing the exact same thing.Īs for the piece of paper saying there certified, it's nothing but a piece of paper. on anything that is not replaceable, do I use acid free tape? Yes when it is called for. I have never bad mouthed a framer in my town or any other surrounding towns, I know the good ones (one of which posts often right here) and I send anything that I feel is beyond my capability to them.ĭo I practice conservation framing? YES. do some of them display a PPFA sign, YES!ĭo I comment to the customer when it happens? Do I tell them all the bad things that OTHER framer did to there work? No, I don't. are they still in operation? YES, do they still use packaging tape on limited editions, YES. After 16yrs of framing I have had my fair share of them.
I am so glad that I don't post every single time I take a part a piece of # that was framed by a local independant framer.
